I worked with food stylist Elizabeth Hawkins http://elizabethhawkins.com/ on incorporating a story telling perspective on food photography. I love to showcase an environment and story throughout all of my images, whether it be people, food, location, or studio. So, I teamed up with my wonderful food stylist and gave her a concept I’d been thinking about for a while. She came up with some recipes and there we went.
So, in these images we showed the before and after photos of the food. Raw food vs cooked. I wanted to show how beautiful it can be in it’s natural state and ready to eat. So, we did a variety of shots with the fish before and after, and the vegetables before and after. I also experimented with some different lighting techniques and played with some raw, rustic propping to give it a country home cooked feel.
Here are a few of the results of this really fun day of experimentation.

Back in the studio for some scrumptious food photography. This was to highlight Gluten free hot dog buns in typical household scenarios. As a food photographer you take on a lot of rolls including setting the scene of the environment. Here we tried to accomplish two different scenes, one more rich and warm and the other light and airy.

There must be something in the air smelling of pizza because Organic Pizza Company has just opened in Denver, Colorado. Their first restaurant opened in the Highlands neighborhood off of 38th and Tennyson near the Sunflower Market. They are selling take-n-bake Organic pizzas featuring local ingredients. Delicious!!
For photography, we had already done a studio food photography session to showcase the pizzas, so this time they wanted to feature the location. They wanted clean, bright feeling images slightly abstract in nature. So, that’s what we worked on.
It was a fun shoot. In the last photo shown I used a slightly longer exposure and a pop of the strobes to get some motion and freeze the subject. Check it out…

So, Udi’s has opened up a pizza parlor in Arvada, Colorado serving up some delicious food. They wanted me to go in and do more of an editorial shoot showcasing their pizzas on location and some of the process of making the pizzas. So, here are just a few of the shots we came up with. There were a ton to choose from for this shoot due to the beautiful location and product but these were some of my favs to tell the story.
They are also coming out with a line of frozen gluten free pizzas and some of these photos will be used for the advertising on the box.
